Valve has announced that Steam's Big Picture Mode, a sleek UI that makes it easy to launch most controller-friendly PC games with a gamepad, has outgrown its beta pants. Now, you might not care about that, because unless you have a PC hooked up to a big-screen TV where it's more comfortable to sit back with a gamepad, most of you probably prefer to play with your mouse and keyboard. But Valve's given even the most hardcore M/KB-faithful a reason to pay attention: savings!
The Fall Sale only just ended, but now Steam's offering heavy discounts on its "controller-friendliest games" for the next week. There are some great gems in here, including GameSpy Editor's Choice selections Orcs Must Die! 2 for $3.75, Mark of the Ninja for $10, and the always-awesome Left 4 Dead 2 for $5. I also approve of the $30 price for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, particularly if you were a fan of the '80s cartoon more than the Michael Bay monstrosities.
Hilariously, Valve has lumped in its own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with the "controller friendly" games, which conjures a mental image of handing someone a Nerf bat and shoving them out into a gladiatorial arena. Seriously, if you can go into CS:GO with a gamepad and score a single kill, I'll be amazed. But in any case, have you tried out Steam Big Picture Mode? If so, what's your experience been like? And what games to you recommend or not recommend for use with it?
