As a fairly casual StarCraft 2 player, I tend to miss a lot of what goes on in the universe that surrounds the multiplayer matches that I so often lose horribly in. That's why I'm fascinated by these Blizzard Creative Q&A's. The team recently dropped the 11th installment in the StarCraft 2 Q&A series, with a focus on how the races in the RTS have evolved.
Over the course of the 10 questions, we learn that the Protoss aren't terribly interested in advancing their technology at a speedy rate, the Zerg can fly through space without any gear because of their unique evolution, Jim Raynor is a broken, sad man, and that the Zerg will probably never turn kind and cuddly. I mean, we wouldn't expect that anyway, but I suppose it's good to know. Really though, would you want to relax on the couch next to a slimy, spiky Zergling? Probably not.
But perhaps most interestingly, we get this little bit of logistical clearing up about the story:
Question: Raynor and Zeratul had a vision. We learned it was the Overmind's and that it showed the future (or a possible future). But how and why did the Overmind have this vision in the first place?Read the full Q&A over at the StarCraft 2 official site.
Answer: The Overmind's consciousness was molded by the entity referred to here as the Dark Voice. During that process, the Overmind was exposed to some of the Dark Voice's plans for the future. Scattered, confused images, sensations, ideas, concepts. Nothing clear or concrete. That vision was a narrative the Overmind constructed from bits and pieces, and it was about all that the Overmind could glean from the time spent with the Dark Voice.
