Warhammer Online is still over a year away but appears to be shaping up nicely, as additional details about Mythic's MMO continue to trickle out in small smatterings. We recently discussed a lot of the inner workings of the game back in April, but the company is slowly unveiling more about the world and its make-up.

For example, we now know that Chaos will focus on the Chaos God Tzeentch, the so-called Changer of the Ways. This makes perfect sense as this God is focused on magic as well as melee combat, so it lends itself well in terms of gameplay. However, other demons will be in the game, such as Nurgle's Plaguebearers, as well as everything in Tzeentch's retinue, from Pink Horrors to Flamers.

We were able to play with the Greenskins against other players on a LAN, and we discovered that the Goblins will have Shamans and Squig Herders (the Goblin Pet Class), and the Orcs get the Warboss and the "Battler" (which is really just an archer with a weird name). The Shamans are particularly fun, as they can cast some of the more classic Warhammer Goblin Spells such as the entire "Mork and Gork" line -- to actually see the fists of Gork materialize and pound a dwarf to bits is very satisfying indeed.

We also were able to take part in one of the game's many "public quests" which allow you to take part in a multi-tiered quest at the same time as other players. In this case, we had to kill 20 "squigs" that were annoying a huge giant; after dealing with the squigs, we had to find barrels of ale so that the giant could get hammered (giants are drunk a lot in Warhammer). What's cool about the public quests is that you could hop online and take part in this quest during any stage. You could join in after the squigs have been dealt with, for example. The more you do in a public quest, the greater the reward. This sounds like a great way to promote team play without the investment of a several-hour long instance run as you can do as much or as little as you wish.
