Funcom has revealed its new expansion pack for Age of Conan, which has been dubbed Rise of the Godslayer. Eurogamer has posted first impressions from the new content, which does not raise the current level cap of 80 for players.
There's no raised level cap in Rise of the Godslayer. There is a new continent, the Asian-themed Khitai (which comes with a new player race, the Khitan), but it contains lower-level content - for level 20 up - as well as a high-level challenge.

There are no new classes, and no more levels, but there is an alternate advancement system that will broaden the range of each existing class as well as increase its power. There isn't just more stuff to do, but there's a greater variety of it; raising wolves and tigers from cubs to fighting companions to mounts, taking sides in factional struggles.
The article notes that Rise of the Godslayer seems to cater more to the solo adventurer, which it notes has become the game's forte over other MMORPGs like Lord of the Rings Online and Warhammer Online.

A tiger? In Africa?

Bryn says: This sounds like it could appeal to me in as much as I could probably stand to hack through the content in a solo fashion. Warhammer Online does the PvP thing so well, and World of Warcraft does, well, everything pretty well, so a nice solo trek through some interesting content certainly has its appeal.

Is anyone out there even playing Age of Conan right now?
