Building the fictional world of San Paro took five years, and now that cops and robbers MMO APB is live, developer Realtime Worlds announced today it will restructure its workforce to support the game.

Studio Head Gary Dale told Develop there will be a handful of layoffs and another unannounced project will be downscaled, but in the short term, the studio's headcount will actually increase as it looks to hire to support APB post-release.

"We now have to focus our efforts and resources on running APB as a 24/7 online live operation, creating new content and services for the future and ensuring the best possible experience for the players," Dale told Develop.

Reviewers were critical of the game, with most describing it as underdeveloped, and the result is a low Metacritic score of 59. But the studio told Develop APB's launch went very smoothly and the team is looking forward to supporting and expanding the game.

Sharkey says: I might be reading too much into this, but it sounds to me like Develop got word of layoffs, called, and RTW put its best spin on a bad situation. After getting my hands on Crackdown 2 and seeing the poor reviews of APB, I can't help but wish RTW stuck with Crackdown. Any APB players out there like to add their two cents?
