Brian Fargo activated the Wayback Machine to Kickstart Wasteland 2. It also appears the former Interplay dev would like to revive another of the famed RPG studio's classics - Planescape: Torment. Well, at least the Torment part.

Here's the rundown: InXile developer Colin McComb used to work at Interplay's Black Isle studio, and he played a big part in making Planescape: Torment one of the best and most beloved RPGs ever. These days, he's working on Wasteland 2 with Fargo, and when he's not coding, he's getting old-school PC gamers crazy excited about the prospect of a new Planescape: Torment on the Colin McComb blog.

In a November 30 post, McComb says the bulk of his work on Wasteland 2 is complete, and now he's thinking about the project he would most like to do next. That project is a new Torment game. Notice I said "Torment" and not "Planescape: Torment." Wizards of the Coast still owns the Planescape IP, and there is no indication it would like to revisit the setting with a new PC RPG. Buuuut, as McComb writes when asked by a reader if a sequel is at all possible: "I've got… let's say I've got an in with the Torment IP. Planescape itself, not so much – but I think I've got something equally as cool lined up."

Cue the internet sleuths at RPG Codex. They dug up a filing with the US Patent & Trademark Office for "Torment" that was submitted in May by, drumroll... Brian Fargo.

So it appears inXile has acquired the rights to Torment and is gearing up to make a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, just not in the Planescape setting. McComb says he'll provide an update in the near future. We'll keep you posted.
